Peter Lin, Learning Technologist at Brunel University of London, is celebrating after winning the Future Technologies Award at the National Simulation Technician Awards 2026.
Peter was recognised for his role in implementing and merging different technologies with the potential to transform healthcare simulation. The award celebrates visionary thinking, experimentation and the adoption of next-generation tools or methods that advance the field of simulation.
The National Simulation Technician Awards celebrate the exceptional contributions of simulation technicians working across the UK. They recognise individuals and teams who demonstrate excellence, innovation and leadership in the delivery and advancement of healthcare simulation.
Often working behind the scenes, simulation technicians and learning technologists play a vital role in delivering high-quality simulation experiences. From designing immersive learning environments and maintaining complex technology to supporting educators and ensuring learners have a safe and effective experience, their expertise is fundamental to the success of simulation-based teaching.
Brunel’s Health Sciences programmes combine real-world learning with state-of-the-art simulation, giving students the opportunity to practise clinical decision-making, teamwork and patient care in realistic healthcare environments before entering professional practice.
Peter said: “I’m delighted to have won the Future Technologies Award. Simulation is at its most exciting when technology and pedagogy come together to create meaningful and effective learning experiences. This recognition reflects the creativity and commitment of colleagues across Brunel, as well as everything we have achieved through collaboration between our technical and academic teams. I’m incredibly proud that our work to advance healthcare simulation has been recognised nationally, and grateful to be part of such an innovative professional community.”
Brunel’s Principal Technical Specialist – Clinical Simulation, Sam McCormack, was a finalist for the Outstanding Contribution Award, which celebrates individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact through their commitment and contribution to simulation.
Students benefit from Brunel’s nationally recognised simulation expertise, using advanced facilities, including specialist simulation rooms, and immersive scenarios to practise real-world skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Sam, Peter and colleagues from Criminology and Criminal Justice (Professional Practice), digital education and technical services are also finalists in the Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year category at the Times Higher Education Awards (THE) 2026, recognising its sector-leading use of immersive simulation in Brunel's MSc in Crime Science, Investigation and Intelligence programme to prepare students for the realities of investigative practice. The THE Awards ceremony will take place on 26 November 2026.
