These all offer optional placement years to help you build your CV, develop your professional network and gain the experience that employers are looking for.
Sociology and Criminology BSc (Hons)
If you’re curious about how the world works – and how it could work better – this course will give you the tools needed to dig deeper. You’ll explore some of today’s most pressing issues, from crime and harm to identity, culture, inequality, housing and community change. You'll also learn to connect the big picture with the everyday and the personal with the political.

English and History BA (Hons)
This course gives you the opportunity to explore literature and history side by side, learning how texts and events shape - and reshape - each other.
Students may also like to consider the following courses in Clearing: English BA (Hons), English with Creative Writing BA (Hons), Theatre and English BA (Hons), and Film and Television Studies and English BA (Hons). All of these offer a placement year.
If you enjoy writing and gaming, take a look at Games Design and Creative Writing BA (Hons). You’ll learn about games design, have 24-7 access to a games lab and be taught creative writing by acclaimed authors. This course is available in Clearing without a placement year.
If you enjoy history, you can also choose from History and Human Geography BA (Hons), History and International Relations BA (Hons), International Relations and History BSc (Hons), Military and International History BA (Hons), and Politics and History BSc (Hons). These are all available in Clearing with an optional placement year.
Film and Media Production BA (Hons)
This course enables you to make films, tell stories and create work that connects with real audiences. You can also take the NCTJ journalism qualification at no extra cost.
If you undertake the NCTJ journalism qualification, you’ll work on our unique student newspaper, the Hillingdon Herald. This ensures you’ll graduate with a portfolio of work to show prospective employers.
We also offer Film Production BA (Hons), Film Production and Theatre BA (Hons), Film and Television Studies BA (Hons), Film and Television Studies and English BA (Hons), Media and Communications BSc (Hons), Visual Effects and Motion Graphics BSc (Hons), Computer Science (Digital Media and Games) BSc (Hons), and Games Design BA (Hons). All courses bar Games Design offer a placement year in Clearing.
History and Human Geography BA (Hons)
You'll uncover the connections between people, places and the past, while learning how historians and geographers explain today’s biggest challenges from different angles.
You can also sign up for the following courses in Clearing with an optional work placement: Geography BSc (Hons), Human Geography and Anthropology BSc (Hons), plus the history-based courses outlined above.
