Meta to headline AI-flavoured festival of future-thinking design

Brunel University of London’s flagship four-day creative design showcase bursts back onto the scene with an AI-themed Industry Night featuring special guests, Meta.

Remastered, this year’s Made in Brunel exhibition, returns to mark the brand’s 20th anniversary and 40 years of Design at Brunel.

Head to the Michael Sterling Building on campus to see how final-year Product Design students reimagine the  world – through prototypes, products and blue-sky problem-solving.

Kicking off on Wednesday 4 June, an expert panel designers, developers and leading  thinkers will explore how AI is reshaping design – not to replace creative work, but to retool it.

"AI's not the idea," says student and Remastered co-director Anna Chapman, who is exhibiting her own AI-driven device to monitor how well prostate cancer treatment is working to reduce in person follow-ups. “AI is the tool. And you need to know how to use that tool. Once you've started a concept, that's when I think it's fun.”

Students, staff, alumni, professionals and community members can discover for free throughout the week a dazzling array of ‘outside the box’ inventions, from a smart biokettle that turns food waste to cooking gas and a next-generation flood warning system blending cellular and mesh networks to a station navigation system for Transport for London. Each is a potential game-changer, poised to become the new generation’s go-to gadgets and solutions.

Opening at 11am, Wednesday’s Industry Day offers professionals and companies a first glimpse of fresh talent and groundbreaking projects. The AI talk with Meta starts at 5pm, followed by an Industry Awards Evening.

Local schools will be welcomed on 5 June from 10am to 3pm to explore interactive exhibits and spark curiosity in the next generation of designers. Alumni return on 6 June from 2pm to 9pm to reconnect, celebrate and see how today’s students are pushing the boundaries of design. The event closes on 7 June with a general admission day from 11am to 5pm, open to staff, students, families and the wider community.

Across all four days, visitors can enjoy live equipment demonstrations, engaging industry talks, and shop exclusive limited-edition merchandise in an atmosphere buzzing with fresh talent energy ready to Remaster the design scene.
