Chris is Associate Director of Technical Services at Brunel University of London. He provides strategic leadership and operational management for the university’s technical services, uniting expertise that supports teaching, research, and innovation across all disciplines. With a career spanning the Royal Navy and higher education, Chris is focused on modernising technical services, improving efficiency, and ensuring staff and students benefit from consistent, high-quality support. He also leads Brunel’s work on the national Technician Commitment, helping to create clear career pathways and greater recognition for technicians.

In addition, Chris is Brunel's lead champion for the Ministry of Defence Armed Forces Covenant. He has played a key role in securing Brunel’s Gold Award twice in the MOD’s Employer Recognition Scheme.

Responsibility

• Lead and coordinate technical services across the university, ensuring teams work together effectively to support teaching, research, and enterprise.

• Modernise technical practices and introduce new ways of working to improve efficiency and consistency.

• Support the professional development and recognition of technicians, aligning with the Technician Commitment.

• Work with academic and professional service colleagues to ensure technical expertise underpins Brunel’s strategic priorities.

• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative technical community that enhances the student and staff experience.
