Dr Elham Shafiei Gol

Summary

Elham is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) of Information Systems in the Business Analytics and Marketing (BAM) department at Brunel Business School, where she also serves as Research Ethics Lead for the School. Prior to her academic career, she worked in the banking industry as a business analyst and usability researcher, before undertaking her doctoral studies in the Department of Digitalization at Copenhagen Business School (CBS).

Elham's research interests include digital transformation and the future of work, focusing on responsible innovation, AI and digital innovation, digital labour platforms, and platforms' governance. She is also interested in how generative AI is reshaping the nature of work across both platforms and organisations. Her work explores how platform-based and sociotechnical work arrangements are governed and organised to generate value for organisations, workers, and society more broadly — including through co-creation, inbound open innovation, and absorptive capacity. This research agenda sits at the intersection of information systems, work and organisation studies, and innovation management, and speaks to the changing nature of value creation, coordination, and governance in digitally-mediated work.

Her research has been published in leading journals in the Information Systems field (ABS 4* and ABS 4), including Information Systems Research and the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, as well as in highly competitive conferences including ICIS and ECIS. She serves as a reviewer for several high-ranking journals, including the Journal of Strategic Information Systems and Information & Management. Elham is a member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the AIS Special Interest Group on E-Business, the AIS Women's Network, and the Platform Economy Interest Group (PEIG) at the University of Oxford
