Summary

Giannis S. Efthymiou is a Lecturer in Education with teaching responsibilities at the Primary PGCE Programme. Prior to joining higher education Giannis was a primary school teacher and leader at primary schools in London having had a range of leadership responsibilities. He has led and coordinated professional development projects for teachers across Europe through a range of funded opportunities from the British Council and Erasmus. He completed his undergraduate degree in Primary Education at the University of Patras, Greece. Prior to joining Brunel in September 2021, Giannis was a Lecturer at the University of Cumbria where he was the cohort lead of the BA in Primary Education with QTS programme and was also responsible for teaching in the MA modules of the primary PGCE programme. He has also been a tutor at the MA in Education and International Development at the UCL Institute of Education. 

Giannis is currently at the final stages of his doctoral research in Global Learning at the Development Education Research Centre of the UCL Institute of Education. His research interests are mainly positioned within global learning, as well as the wider field of global citizenship education. Dominantly influenced by critical pedagogy and postcolonial theory, Giannis is particularly interested in teachers' transformative learning opportunities as well as their sense of personal and professional development in relation to global learning.
