Summary
Alongside the other technicians, I am a member of a comprehensive support service across Environmental Sciences teaching and research laboratories, with a particular emphasis on analytical chemistry.
Before coming to Brunel I was working for over 10 years in various industries including oil and gas, industrial scale manufacturing, and construction materials.
Responsibility
As well as day to day operational support of the laboratories, I provide technical assistance to Brunel University research students and staff as they conduct their research using the analytical instruments. I also on occasion have the opportunity to take on contract work from outside the university. I really enjoy the variety of projects I can get involved with.
I am a member of the university's green lab network, working on improving the sustainability of lab practices through involvement with Green Impact in the past and exploring new ways to improve sustainability in the future.
I have been working with other colleagues on implementing Labcup in our facilities enabling us to organise, track and inventory our assests and chemical stocks.
I have helped develop and optimise various analysis methods, for example BTEX analysis by HS-GCMS and various metals analysis methods by ICP-OES.
