Trusted Research Manager

Responsibility

The Post Award office is a functional area within RSDO which provides management, support and oversight of the University’s portfolio of externally funded grants and contracts for research and knowledge exchange. Research is funded primarily by grants from the Research Councils, charities, government departments, industry, the European Commission and similar organisations. The University currently has a portfolio of research grants and contracts of nearly £100 million.

The role will be instrumental in implementing a new high quality, value added post award service that bridges the gap between pre award activity currently supported by RSDO and the post award responsibilities placed on the academic community, which are supported by other professional service units and College Research Offices.

Working closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) and those holding research grants, the focus of the service will be on providing a high quality, consistent and professional post award service. The Post Award team supports and maintains funder and partner relationships throughout the delivery and reporting of research awards and contracts, in accordance with funder terms and conditions. The objectives are to enhance our reputation with funders, to improve our ability to deliver on the requirements and expectations of research funders and to maximise research grant income.

Leading a team of funder specialists, the role will provide effective and enhanced support to PIs and College/BCAST Research Offices for post-award research grant responsibilities. This includes mitigating and minimising risk and negative impacts arising in the course of research projects, ensuring the transparent, and consistent application and interpretation of all funder and relevant University policies, liaison with external funding bodies and project coordinators, providing advice and support to academic Principal Investigators (PIs) on project matters, and liaising with College Research Offices and other professional support departments.
