Mr Mohammad Ahmar Alvi
PhD Student
Summary
He/ him
Ahmar is a Techne-AHRC-funded Doctoral Researcher supervised by Dr. Kate Houlden.
Ahmar's doctoral research focuses on the intersection of Food Studies and Dalit Studies. His central thesis argues that the representation of food in Dalit literature serves as a form of resistance against dominant Brahmanical concepts of taste, cuisine, purity, and the broader issue of Hindu casteism. By examining the narrative strategies employed by Dalit writers to combat their dehumanisation in an era of rising global fascism, this research aims to contribute to the global discourse on resistance cultures. Building on his publication-to-date, it will also help shape current discussions in Food Studies regarding inclusion and exclusion, food justice, and the individual right to participate in food systems.
