Miss Niki Ashby

Summary

Niki lectures in film production and film and television studies. Her teaching and practice span filmmaking, creative industries, and questions of representation, with a particular interest in the ways film and television can engage with social and political issues. Her creative practice primarily focuses on using film as a tool for social justice and advocacy, collaborating with charities, NGOs, and other organisations to develop film projects that amplify underrepresented perspectives, provide support to marginalised communities, and engage audiences with issues of social significance.

Qualifications

A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Niki has a BA in Film and Television Studies, an MA in Documentary Practice, and a PgCert in Academic Practice. She is a PhD candidate at the University of Exeter with her thesis exploring representations of extinction-driving violence against animals in fiction film. She is a Recognised Programme Developer for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Responsibility

Niki is Director of Education for the Department of Arts and Humanities, overseeing Music, Games Design, Creative Writing, English, Film and Television, Theatre, Art Psychotherapy, and Drama Therapy.
