This research concerns itself with the subversion of female norms through grotesque theatrical performance. The research was related to both historical and contemporary examples includıng the performances of the researcher herself. The research shows that the deliberate distortion and manipulation of femininity has proved itself progressive in magnifying our sense for the female and the taboos surrounding its expression.

About: Nilüfer Ovalıoğlu brings aspects of sculpture and theatre together in performance. She was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1978 and later, studied sculpture before her MFA focusing on video and performance. After then training in physical theatre, she turned to her practice based doctoral research on 'The Female Bouffon'. Nilüfer has taught at Brunel University and State University of New York. She collaborates internationally in performance.
