Summary

Sherwyn Sicat has a range of practice experience from his time working in Children and Families Social Work. These include safeguarding (which includes as a social worker and a Children Protection Chair), Family Partnership Model, practice education, line management (a variety of disciplines including Social Work Students, ASYE Social Workers, Youth Justice Workers, Education Specialists, Clinical Psychologists), contextual safeguarding, quality assurance, LADO (Local Authority Designated Lead) in dealing with allegations against staff and volunteers and mentoring. He has been involved in a number of Local Authority pilot projects such as the Helping Families Programme and specialised adolescent teams.

Sherwyn joined Brunel in 2019 to share his knowledge and experience with students who would become the next generation of social workers and social work supervisors. He has been involved with the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) in the early implementation group of the Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) Refresh guidance (2020) and has applied this to the PEPS programme run at Brunel. An area of interest for him is contextual safeguarding and he is a part of the Contextual Safeguarding Academics Network. His other areas of interest include stress in social work and interprofessional learning.
