Head of Department: Professor Ann Gallagher
Welcome to the Department of Health Sciences
The Department is part of the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. We develop and conduct innovative education and research which contributes to excellence to health and social care. In partnership with care providers, regulators, students and local and global stakeholders, we work to enhance the flourishing of individuals, families and communities.
The Department of Health Sciences team is committed to the provision of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate education in global public health, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and workforce development.
Our enhanced and advanced professional education programmes lead the development of health and social care professionals to provide specialist knowledge and skills in areas such as critical care, pelvic health, cardiovascular health, non-medical prescribing and musculoskeletal ultrasound. We're committed to interprofessional education and, in addition to our subject areas, we work with colleagues in medicine, the physician assistant programme and psychology.
Our research responds to local and global health challenges. We have multidisciplinary, international and diverse methodological expertise in areas which impact professional practice, policy and leadership. Research in areas such as ageing, health economics, public health and social care policy contribute positively to health creation in local and global communities.
