HERG doctoral graduate James Chambers wins prestigious international award

James-Chambers-award

Having succesfully completed his PhD at the Health Economics Research Group (HERG) in 2012 with Prof Martin Buxton and Prof Joanne Lord, James Chambers was awarded the prestigious 2017 ISPOR Bernie O’Brien New Investigator Award.

The International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) established the award in 2004 to honour the long-standing commitment of Bernie J. O’Brien to training and mentoring new scientists in the fields of outcomes research and pharmacoeconomics. Bernie himself had also been supervised at HERG by Martin Buxton and completed his PhD in 1990, but his glittering career was tragically cut short when he died while out jogging in 2004.

The ISPOR citation states that James, now an Assistant Professor at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA, USA, was ‘honored for demonstrating exceptional promise as an investigator based on his emerging body of technical and scholarly work in the fields of health economics and outcomes research.’ He had previously been honoured at Brunel by receiving the Vice-Chancellor's Prize for Doctoral Research
