Arts and humanities

Our REF 2021 submission for the arts and humanities panel encompassed 50 researchers across two areas of study.

When Professor Bernardine Evaristo was awarded the 2019 Booker Prize for fiction, it not only proved to be a watershed moment in British publishing, but it also marked the culmination of a decade-long collaborative effort to develop a critical-creative research culture for at Brunel. Submitted to the English Language and Literature Unit of Assessment, the research by Evaristo and her colleagues involved key partners ranging from the UK publishing industry to the Latvian Government.

The research we submitted to the Music, Drama, Dance, Performing Arts, Film and Screen Studies Unit of Assessment included 33 books, 108 articles in refereed journals, 76 book chapters, 73 compositions, 23 performances, 6 music CDs, 9 films and 4 digital games, with key partners including Equity, Independent Dance and Fighters for Peace in Lebanon.
