Best Student Award from Plias Resettlement to MA social work student, Toks Francis

Toks Francis and Tom Chandler, one of directors of Plias Resettlement(1)

Brunel MA in Social Work student, Toks Francis was recently awarded the Most Outstanding Student Award 2019 as part of Plias Resettlement Awards Night.

In their decision, the judges explained that “Toks has been both a consistent and committed student who brought valuable knowledge and experience, gained from her previous employment, and applied this when dealing with clients that PLIAS Resettlement supports. Toks has a passion for the work and excellent personal qualities when supporting her clients, many of whom have complex and challenging needs. Toks was a pleasure to have working as part of the PLIAS team”.
After being invited to come on to the stage and receive the award, Toks took the microphone and quickly invited three other students who were also on placement at Plias to join her on stage. She explained that whilst she understands that the judges had to choose one person, a lot of the work on Plias is collaborative and she would like to share her award with her colleagues. The Plias Awards Night celebrates the achievements of ex-offenders who managed to turn their lives around and the contributions of staff, students and volunteers in that effort. During the night the audience had the privilege to listen to some of these amazing and inspiring stories.
