2011 Mentoring awards ceremony recognises exceptional mentors and mentees

Mentor Awards 1The Annual Award Ceremony of the Brunel Professional Mentoring Scheme was held on campus recently, to recognise the exceptional work of the both mentors and student mentees.

The scheme is part of Brunel Widening Participation (WP), aimed at undergraduate students from under-represented groups such as those who are the first in their family to enter higher education. It includes the Ethnic Minority Undergraduate Scheme (EMUS), part of a national programme developed by the National Mentoring Consortium.

Winning students mentored by professionals in their chosen field spoke highly of the support and encouragement they have received from their mentors over the past year.

Brunel’s Mentoring Co-ordinator Bertie Ross said: “The achievements by many on the programme have been considerable.” Widening Participation Officer Dr Beverley Crooks added: “Our students have gone further than they thought they could, because someone else thought they could.”
