Brunel Soudavar Scholarship Fund Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions

  1. The purpose of the Soudavar Scholarship Fund is to provide opportunities for suitable qualified Iranian students to study for a 3-year PhD research degree at Brunel University.

  2. Scholarships are awarded for the academic year 2012/13 for duration for three years and will not be deferred to later years of entry. Course applicants who intend to defer their studies are not eligible.

  3. Living costs will be paid to the student; fees will be paid directly to Brunel University once the student enrols for the entry year 2012/13. No cash alternative will be offered.

  4. If the applicant is an overseas student - the scholarship does not replace the deposit of £3000. The scholarship winner will need to pay the £3000 deposit for their course in order to receive an unconditional offer and a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS). Once the student is enrolled they will be refunded the deposit of £3000.

  5. Scholarship awards will not be paid out until the applicant has fully enrolled at Brunel University, which includes having had their qualifications and other documentation verified and checked, and then completing the University enrolment procedures.

  6. Students who benefit from the Soudavar Scholarship Fund shall be asked, as a matter of honour, to make contributions after they have entered into gainful employment.

  7. Successful applicants will be required to engage with a wide range of publicity and promotional activities, plus a formal event during the academic year. Please note that this is a key requirement of the award and by accepting the award you will be entering into an agreement to undertake these activities.

These promotional activities are likely to include:

  1. Attend a welcome reception during the year.
  2. Take part in photoshoots and filming events organised by Brunel International (maximum of 3)
  3. Write a profile of yourself (250 words) that should include some or all of the following points – Why you chose Brunel – Your life at the university – How your course at Brunel will contribute to your career
  4. Meet guests from overseas universities or embassies
  5. Other duties as and when stated.

This list is not exhaustive and may be subject to change.

  1. Scholarship awards are made by the International Scholarships Panel and all decisions are final. The University will not accept any appeals in respect of the decisions made by the Panel.

  2. The scholarships cannot be combined with any other University bursary or awards.

Am I eligible?

  • You are a students with an offer for a full time PhD course at Brunel University for the academic year 2012/13 (1 October 2012 to 30 September 2013). This excludes distant learning and part-time students.
  • You are of current or recent Iranian nationality, or Persian extraction.
  • You have outstanding academic qualifications.
  • You have outstanding academic references.

How do I apply?

Applicants must provide the following documents:

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter from your supervisor or sponsor (institutional headed paper and signed by the referee)
  • Reference from your former academic (institutional headed paper and signed by the referee)
  • Copy of your offer letter
  • Proof of current or recent Iranian nationality or Persian extraction
