PhD Studentship in Patient Decision Making

The Department of Clinical Sciences is looking to recruit one PhD student to conduct a research project entitled: “Better health for people with rare endocrine disorders: promoting patient engagement in regular screening in the area of patient experience and service delivery research. The mixed methods research will aim to understand how patient’s decision making may be better supported to enhance engagement in regular screening services. Brunel academic PhD supervision will be provided by Professor Harries and Professor De Souza of Brunel University London in partnership with Professor Drake, Professor of Clinical Endocrinology and Dr Dancyger, Clinical Psychologist both of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.

  • Requirements:  Applicants must have a first-class or good upper-second-class undergraduate degree, a postgraduate Master’s degree in a Health or closely related discipline and experience of working with patients or service users in a health provider environment. Preference will be given to applicants with experience of clinical research or clinical audit. If you are a non-native speaker and have not been awarded a Master’s degree by a University in the UK, you must demonstrate English language skills to IELTS 7.0 (minimum 6.5 in any section) or equivalent.
  • Eligibility: Home/EU
  • Scholarship: The studentship offers an annual stipend of £16,500 (rising to £17,000 year 2 and £17,500 year 3) plus Home/EU tuition fees and a maximum of 36 months. Some funds are available for research costs, equipment and conference attendance. The student may be required to contribute towards the teaching and learning related activities of the Department in each academic year of registration.
