Tell us about your career journey since you graduated…
I entered the Dun & Bradstreet Graduate Scheme, which is a structured training program to learn how to be a successful sales person. I've since gone on to be a Team Leader and support the development of others as well as carrying my own target. It has been great to have an opportunity to shine at such a well-established and respected company.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
My day typically involves researching and prospecting new clients (who don't currently work with Dun & Bradstreet), showcasing our products and solutions as well as closing new business deals. I also support new team members by coaching, knowledge sharing and helping in their continuous development. I also stay up to date with trends in the industry and markets I’m working in.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
The highlight for me has to be being recognised for Winner's Club (awarded for sales people that are the top performers in respective quarters) for the 7th time. It's always great to recognise success and celebrate with others who have also been delivering great results! I feel like it’s always important to recognise and take the time to celebrate success!
How would you say Brunel helped you to get where you are today?
Academically, firstly. Studying at undergraduate level has equipped me to tackle the business problems which organisations face daily, as well as good, sound knowledge of sales and marketing. Secondly, the support and development in my interpersonal skills and employability skills helped me to be the confident graduate that I am today, which is key to my current role.
Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?
I chose to study at Brunel as the Business School is first-class and very highly regarded. Why would I recommend Brunel to others? Brunel is a great Campus-University with excellent links to London. The University is like one big family and supports both academically and with future employability.
What is your best memory of studying here?
It has to be completing my final year project. My project helped me to connect with students and tackle a real-world problem. It was a culmination of everything i had learned in my degree prior, also sharing ideas with a group and seeing the great work my peers had done too was fantastic!
If you could give one piece of advice to new students, what would that be?
University is a great time to try new things. Take whatever opportunities come your way as they will help to shape you and give you great experience before you enter the business world. You never know what might become your all-time favourite hobby or interest if you don't give it a try!
What would be your top tip or advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey?
When you start your career, it will be similar to your first day at University. You won't know anyone or anything and it can be a daunting process. Approach it with an open mind and have a thirst for knowledge. You will quickly adapt and start climbing that career ladder!
