What I love the most about my job is that I get to work with colleagues from different countries with different backgrounds and experiences in a truly multi-cultural environment.

Asress , Staff

From Ethiopia

Born and raised in a small village in Southern Ethiopia, Asress completed his bachelor’s degree in law at Addis Ababa University, before moving to Europe for his masters and PhD degrees and joining Brunel Law School as a lecturer.

Asress’ research focuses on the regulation of algorithmic decisions in financial services, focussing on the socio-legal and ethical challenges posed by the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence for decision making in the public and private sectors.

As an early-career scholar, Asress finds it challenging to balance work and family life and maintain an optimal balance between times allocated for teaching, research and administrative works. He makes time to relax by listening to music, reading and exercise depending on his energy level, time and state of mind.

Asress benefits from the supportive environment and collegiality within Brunel Law School, saying: “What I love the most about my job is that I get to work with colleagues from different countries with different backgrounds and experiences in a truly multi-cultural environment.”
