BGP Global Services: Transforming Digital Evidence Presentation Through the RIEm Programme

Modernising Court Processes Through AI Innovation

The need

Justice systems are under increasing pressure to improve efficiency while managing growing case volumes and significant court backlogs. Digital evidence is now a central component of legal proceedings, yet the process of managing and presenting evidence remains resource intensive and often relies heavily on manual intervention.

For BGP Global Services, the opportunity was to rethink how digital evidence could be accessed and presented within court environments. The company identified the potential for artificial intelligence (‘AI’) to streamline evidence handling, improve efficiency and reduce delays across judicial processes.

The solution

With support from the RIEm Programme at The Brunel University of London, Wilf Pickles, Founder of BGP Global Services collaborated with academic experts and industry stakeholders to accelerate development of his AI-powered court technology.

BGP Global Services delivers specialist services including investigations, security solutions and digital evidence support. Building on extensive experience working with digital court environments, the company developed AiCES (AI Court Evidence System) — an AI-enabled platform designed to transform how evidence is presented in court proceedings. Rather than replacing existing expertise, AiCES is intended to support court processes by enabling evidence to be retrieved and displayed quickly and efficiently in response to requests from legal teams and the judiciary.

Through the RIEm programme and wider collaboration with Brunel, the company gained access to specialist expertise and academic support to validate the technology and strengthen future funding opportunities.

The outcome

Process

The collaboration combined programme support with practical product development and validation activities:

Mentorship and Funding Support
The RIEm programme provided expert-led sessions covering grant development, funding readiness and business growth strategies. For BGP Global Services, learning how to structure stronger funding applications represented a particularly valuable outcome.

Innovation Voucher Funding
The business secured a £5,000 Brunel Innovation Voucher, matched by company investment, supporting collaborative activities and technology validation work.

Academic Collaboration
Brunel's legal and technology specialists engaged with the AiCES platform, reviewing and evaluating an early minimum viable product demonstration.

Mock Trial Development
BGP Global Services’ team and Brunel worked together to develop mock court trials involving legal professionals and industry stakeholders. The trials were designed to evaluate the effectiveness of AiCES and measure potential efficiency improvements in judicial processes.

Impact

The RIEm collaboration helped strengthen the development and validation pathway for AiCES and created opportunities for wider adoption. Key outcomes included:

  • Successful acquisition of £5,000 Innovation Voucher funding.
  • Academic collaboration supporting technology evaluation.
  • Strengthened grant application capability and funding readiness.
  • Development of mock trial activity to generate evidence-based outcomes.
  • Increased engagement with key justice sector stakeholders including judicial bodies and policymakers.

The collaboration also reinforced the value of bringing together academic expertise and industry experience to accelerate innovation.

Future

Looking ahead, BGP Global Services aims to:

  • Complete mock trial evaluations and incorporate stakeholder feedback into future development.
  • Launch pilot programmes within court environments.
  • Expand AiCES capabilities through further collaboration with Brunel, including potential translation functionality.
  • Explore opportunities for international adoption across judicial systems beyond the UK.
You get out of the RIEm programme as much as you want. If you listen and take all the information available, especially around grant writing and funding, then it becomes a superb exercise and a really beneficial course to attend."
