Biography

Private Charles Henry Cleaver was the son of Edward and Ellen Cleaver, and is described as being a regular member of his local church. Cleaver attended Borough Road College for 2 years, later gaining a BA in 1909. At Borough Road College he competed in tennis for the college, featuring as the umpire in the 1905-06 tennis team photos. He enlisted as a private in 1914 into the 84th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps. He was 34 when he died in Greece on 3 October 1918, possibly as a result of wounds gained at the attacks on Pip Ridge and the Grande-Couronne. He left a widow, Doris A Cleaver.
