Biography

Corporal George Edmund Baines was born 24 September 1892, the son of Rev. and J. Baines. He attended Borough Road College for two years, graduating with an Intermediate Science qualification. Whilst at the college Baines competed in rugby for Borough Road College. He is listed as being destined for a position at C.S., Thrybergh. Baines enlisted into 12th Battalion, 2nd South Down, Royal Sussex Regiment. He died of wounds on 2 July 1917, aged 23.
