Biography

Gunner Harry Christopher Smith was the son of Fred and Serena Smith. He attended Borough Road College, nothing is known about him academically, but he played rugby for the college. He is listed as having achieved an Intermediate Arts qualification implying that he finished his course before going into active war service. Smith served as a Gunner with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, Royal Field Artillery. The 1918 Roll of Honour says that he “died of Pneumonia in Egypt”, on 20 October 1917, aged 20.
