Biography

Second Lieutenant Joseph Wood was the son of Levi and Alice Wood. He attended Borough Road College for 2 years, and whilst at the college captained the Harriers 1911-1912 as well as competing in an inter-college sport day in 1912. He is listed as being destined for Treeton C.S., Yorkshire, West Riding. Wood enlisted into the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and was later commissioned into the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derby Regiment). He was killed on 27 September 1917, possibly during the 3rd Battle of Ypres, aged 26.
