Biography

Second Lieutenant Stanley Martindale was the son of Mr and Mrs. T. A. Martindale. He was educated at King James’ I Grammar School, Bishop Auckland and then went on to attend Borough Road College for two years, though nothing is known of his time at the college. After education Martindale went straight into war service and enlisted into the Border Regiment. He was killed by shellfire near Thiepval on 4 September 1916 aged 20.
