Biography
Private Sydney Goates came from Broughton. Before entering Borough Road College he attended Brigg Grammar School between 1909-1914. At Borough Road College Goates played football, but it is not known if he completed his academic studies as his destination on the annual report is listed simply as “missing since July 1916”. During the war he fought with 1st/14th Battalion London Regiment, and was killed on 1 July 1916.
