Biography

Lance Corporal William Ewart Hopkinson was the son of John and Eliza Hopkinson. He attended Borough Road College for two years. Whilst at the college he played rugby and was a prefect. After college he became a teacher at Darrell Technical College, Richmond. He enlisted into the 9th Battalion Queen Victoria’s Rifles London Regiment on 1 November 2014 and travelled to France in Easter 1915. During his service he was gassed twice and wounded, before dying on 6 June 1915 aged 24.
