Biography

Second Lieutenant William Head Stephens attended Borough Road College for two years, and is listed as being destined for the 10th Battalion Leicester Regiment once he had left the college. Stephens was killed on 14 July 1916. His commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Haig wrote to his parents that day saying that Stephens had been hit in the hand by a fragment of a shell on the morning of 14 July. Despite his injury, after having it dressed, he elected to return to his company, reaching them around 10am. He was killed later that same day.
