Dialogue Society - Phone Befriender (Talking Bubble Project)

Details of the Charity:

The Dialogue Society promote meaningful interaction and exchange between people of different groups (social, cultural, political and religious). The organisation seeks to contribute to social cohesion by bringing different social groups together, empowering others to do the same, and contributing to the development of dialogue as a tool to strengthen community building.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will provide social support and companionship to individuals who may be feeling isolated, lonely, or in need of someone to talk to. As a Phone Befriender Volunteer, you will learn a set of skills such as active listening, empathy, and compassion, communication, building rapport, non-judgemental attitude, and problem-solving.

Typical duties include:

  • Making regular phone calls to assigned individuals to check on their well-being
  • Engaging in friendly conversations and providing them with emotional support
  • Being a compassionate and non-judgemental listener
  • Establishing a friendly and trusting relationship with the person consistent and empathetic communication

Please note, the Brunel Volunteers team would like you to commit to a minimum of 2-3 months.
