Kith and Kids - Charity Shop Autism Support Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

Kith & Kids is a charity empowering family who have a son or daughter with a learning disability or autism (many also have a physical or sensory disability) to overcome their social exclusion. The organisation provides a variety of volunteer-supported projects and services, offering opportunities to the person with disability to learn new skills and design individual projects that provide them with the much-needed social interaction.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will offer employment and skill development opportunities for individuals with autism, helping them gain work experience and build essential skills. As a Charity Shop Autism Support Volunteer, you will learn a set of skills such as empathy and understanding, communication, patience and flexibility, and positive reinforcement.

Typical duties include:

  • Pairing and engaging members with a learning disability or autism in a friendly and welcoming manner
  • Supporting members to complete the job/role given on a specific day
  • Encouraging members to practice their social skills by interacting with the public
  • Building their confidence to work as part of a team and take on new challenges

Please note, the Brunel Volunteers team would like you to commit to a minimum of 2-3 months.
