City Harvest - Warehouse assistant

Details of the Charity:

City Harvest collects nutritious surplus food from manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers, and delivers, for free, to 350+ London charities feeding those facing food poverty. The organisation provides life-changing support to homeless shelters, hostels, soup kitchens, mental health charities,  projects supporting the elderly and socially isolated, community kitchens, schools, family centres, children’s programmes, and domestic abuse refuges. 

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will help City Harvest to support many Londoners facing obstacles such as homelessness, food poverty, and/or domestic abuse, while also helping the planet by rescuing food that otherwise would go to landfill, where it would release harmful greenhouse gases as it decomposes. As a Warehouse Assistant, you will acquire organisational, teamwork, speed, and accuracy skills.

Typical duties include:

  • Carrying out warehouse tasks to help in the day-to-day running of City Harvest
  • Unloading deliveries
  • Sorting and packing food for delivery
  • Creating mixed meal boxes for the homeless

Please note, the Brunel Volunteers team would like you to commit to a minimum of 2-3 months.
