Kisharon - Shared Reading Group Facilitator

Details of the Charity:

Kisharon is a charity providing education, vocational training, care and support for children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in the Jewish community. The organisation support individuals from nursery to colleges, including assisting with living accommodation and employment opportunities to ensure a safe future and that they have choice and control over their lives.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role you will bring individuals together to read and discuss literature in a collaborative and engaging manner. As a Shared Reading Group Facilitator, you will learn a set of skills such as communication, active listening, empathy, critical thinking, questioning techniques, cultural sensitivity, and public speaking.

Typical duties include:

  • Choosing reading selections provided by ‘The Reader’ (the overseeing body of Shared Reading Groups)
  • Setting of the schedule for reading sessions, including dates, times, and reading assignments
  • Preparing an outline of discussion topics for each session
  • Collecting, monitoring and evaluation data as required

Please note, the Brunel Volunteers team would like you to commit to a minimum of 2-3 months.
