Learning By Heart - Tutor

Details of the Charity:

Learning by Heart is a charity providing online tutoring in a range of subjects, in exchange for a pay-as-you-feel donation which they pass on to a supported partner. The organisation is currently directing all the donations to Refugee Education UK, helping young refugees to thrive in their education through mentoring to 1:1 well-being support, advocacy, and research.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will assist pupils learn and understand new concepts brought to them in the classroom, prepare for exams and discuss suggestions based on feedback from teachers, ultimately helping them to build confidence in their abilities. As a Tutor Volunteer, you will learn a set of skills such as subject expertise, communication, adaptability, patience, problem-solving, critical thinking, and time management.

Typical duties include:

  • Evaluating the student's current understanding of the subject and identify areas where they need assistance
  • Helping the pupil to set goals so they can achieve learning objectives, improving their knowledge and confidence in the subject
  • Developing lesson plans or tutoring sessions that target the student's specific learning needs 
  • Establishing and maintaining a good working relationship and rapport with the pupil(s)

Please note, the Brunel Volunteers team would like you to commit to a minimum of 2-3 months.
