Hillingdon Hospital - Patient Companion

Details of the Charity:

The Hillingdon Hospital is an acute and specialist services provider in North West London, close to Heathrow Airport. The organisation provides the majority of services from the Trust and it is the only acute hospital in Hillingdon with a busy Accident and Emergency, inpatients, day surgery, and outpatient clinics.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will provide support to patients and staff as part of a multidisciplinary team as an additional pair of hands to assist with non-clinical activities on a specific ward. As a Patient Companion, you will enhance your communication, adaptability, planning, and facilitation skills. 

Typical duties include:

  • Talking with patients about hobbies, interests, and activities they might enjoy
  • Assisting with activity sessions, encouraging patients, and staff where appropriate, to take part in activities
  • Helping staff develop activities that are based on patient's well-being and health recovery
  • Cooperating with the supervisor, to work safely, to comply with health and safety instructions and information

Please note, this organisation requires a minimum 6 months commitment for 4 hours per week in addition to two references and a DBS check (fully funded).
