The Access Project - Young person tutor

Details of the Charity:

The Access Project is a charity supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to unlock their potential and break down barriers to accessing selective universities. The organisation works with young people to make good applications, grades, and transition to university helping ultimately to transform their future career prospects. 

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will support a young person aged 14-18 in term-time (Autumn 2023 - Summer 2024) with their academic studies. As a Young Person Tutor, you will increase your subject knowledge while building confidence and learning a set of skills such as subject expertise, communication, adaptability, patience, problem-solving, critical thinking, and time management.

Typical duties include:

  • Delivering one-to-one online tutoring sessions to a young person focusing on specific subjects or topics they want to improve to achieve the GCSE
  • Creating a learning plan for the student, addressing their academic strengths, weaknesses, and learning objectives
  • Offering support, encouragement, and guidance to students in addition to academic tutoring
  • Creating a nurturing environment that fosters student motivation and growth

Support in Maths and Science subjects would be particularly welcome.

Please note, the Brunel Volunteers team would like you to commit to a minimum of 2-3 months.
