Summary
Apostolos Fasianos joined Brunel University London in 2020, where he is a Lecturer in Economics. His research focuses on the macroeconomic implications of household financial behaviour, with particular interests in housing economics, applied macroeconomics, and economic inequalities. More recently, he has developed a complementary research agenda on the economics of artificial intelligence, supported by funding from the European Commission, Brunel University London (BRIEF) and the British Academy, among others.
His research has been published in journals including the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Economics Letters, and the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics. Between 2017 and 2020, he represented Greece in international policy fora, including the European Commission’s EPC Ageing Working Group and the OECD Working Party 1 on Macroeconomic and Structural Policy Analysis.
In teaching, he has extensive experience across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. At Brunel, he has taught Housing Finance for several years, alongside courses in macroeconomics, financial regulation, and financial theory. He has consistently received excellent student evaluations and was nominated for the University-wide Lecturer of the Year award. He is also a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
Prior to joining Brunel, he worked as an economist at the Hellenic Ministry of Finance (2017–2020) and at the Central Bank of Ireland (2016–2017). He has also contributed to research projects led by the Bank of England and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand on topics related to household consumption, house prices, and household indebtedness.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Limerick, an MSc in Economic Development from the University of Glasgow, and an MPhil in Economics from the University of Athens.
