Miss Jiahui Kang
PhD Student

Summary

Jiahui Kang is a PhD researcher in Management Studies at Brunel Business School (BBS), Brunel University of London, having commenced her doctoral studies in October 2025. Her PhD is jointly funded by the University and the China Scholarship Council. She is working under the supervision of Professor Afshin Mansouri (Principal Supervisor), with additional guidance from Dr. Zhen Chen (Second Supervisor) and Dr. Elham Shafiei Gol (Research Development Adviser).

She holds an MSc in Global Supply Chain Management (Merit) from Brunel University of London and a BSc in Logistics Management (First Class Honours) from Shenyang Institute of Engineering.

Her doctoral research examines competitive behaviour and environmental decision-making in e-commerce logistics, framing firms’ choices as a multi-objective trade-off between profit maximisation and emission reduction. Using controlled behavioural experiments implemented on oTree, she develops simplified duopoly settings to investigate how sellers respond to carbon pricing and platform policies under competitive pressure.

Her recent work focuses on behavioural deviations from theoretical equilibrium predictions, particularly in contexts where environmental policies (e.g., carbon pricing) are non-binding in theory but still influence decision-making in practice. This research highlights the role of bounded rationality, learning, and policy salience in shaping firm behaviour.

By integrating experimental methods with economic modelling, her work aims to generate behaviourally grounded insights for platform design and environmental policy, with a specific focus on major Chinese e-commerce ecosystems such as Alibaba Group (Taobao) and JD.com.
