Our expertise

We have expertise in microfluidics, biomaterials and computational fluid dynamics.

The group in Life Sciences has expertise in cell and tissue culture, microbial ecology and cancer specialists. The group has a bioinformatician for in silico studies and class II biological laboratories for undertaking microbial work, PCR and sequencing.

The human toxicology team focuses on investigating the role of chemicals and endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on cancer progression. Their work looks at both single chemicals and mixtures of chemicals which are introduced to OOC systems to understand of the effect on tissues and organs.

We have long standing expertise in:

  • developing low-cost manufacturing techniques and control systems for Organ-on-a-Chip (OOC) devices;
  • investigating biodegradable scaffold materials for tissue formation at the micro-scale;
  • investigating the role of endocrine-disrupting hormones on cancer initiation using co-cultured cells within OOC devices;
  • developing 3D tissue models to understand the aetiology of syndromes associated with the microbiome.
