The Power of Political Satire

This year the Centre for Comedy Studies Research (CCSR) is working with the Magna Carta Institute (MCI) to present the Comedy, Politics and Populism seminar series.

Our first event takes place during Hillingdon Literary Festival on Saturday 7th October 2017:

The Power of Political Satire

Saturday 7th October 2017, 3.00pm-4.00pm

Antonin Artaud Theatre, Brunel University London, Uxbridge, UB8 3PH, UK

Celebrated satirical novelist Jonathan Coe (author of eleven novels, including The Rotters’ Club, What A Carve Up! and Number 11) and Sharon Lockyer (Director of the Centre for Comedy Studies Research) discuss the potent power of political comedy as a critique of the establishment, and its increasingly weaponized form taken up by politicians themselves.
