7 pitches, 4 judges and £5,000 scholarships available to help turn an idea into a business making social impact!
Brunel University of London is proud to partner with the Melete Foundation this academic year to deliver the Melete Social Impact Competition - an initiative designed to empower students to transform innovative ideas into viable business ventures changing the world for good. With £5,000 scholarships available, the programme continues to spotlight emerging entrepreneurial talent committed to driving positive social impact across the university.
The Melete Finals Competition took place on Wednesday 25 March, with 7 finalists pitching their ideas to Lady (Kitty) Chisholm and Sir John Chisholm from the Melete Foundation alongside our entrepreneur hub consultants Emmy Botterman and Farida Danmeri - all competing for a £5,000 scholarship to take their ideas to the next level.
The 2026 competition required entrants to pitch their business idea in just two minutes during stage 1, covering a wide range of sectors including sustainability, environmental solutions, healthcare and food innovation.
Following the initial stage, applicants were shortlisted to progress to the second stage, where they developed and submitted a detailed Business Model Canvas. Throughout the process, participants were supported with a series of workshops and tailored guidance aimed at strengthening their ideas and presentation skills, helping them refine their ideas into scalable and impactful solutions.
Workshops included Business Model Canvas sessions led by Erica Purvis, founder of Technical Nature, alongside Perfect Your Pitch training delivered by Andrew Mossop, founder of The Training Ground, helping participants refine their final presentations.
Each project reflects a strong commitment to tackling real-world challenges, from sustainability and community wellbeing to technological innovation for social good.
