Getting involved

We’re so thankful for the contribution from our alumni community in supporting our activities and initiatives.

From providing feedback and supporting our students, to being ambassadors and writing blogs and profiles, your generous contributions of experience, advice, ideas and feedback really do make all the difference. We couldn’t do what we do in the Development and Alumni Relations Office without your support. Here are a few highlights from the past year of how our alumni community are getting involved.

Alumni Advisory Board Members 2022Alumni Advisory Board

We are delighted to have launched our new Alumni Advisory Board this year, bringing together the Brunel graduate voice to share advice and feedback on our initiatives and make a positive and lasting impact on our global alumni network, our students, and the wider Brunel community. Our 11 Board members are from a diverse mix of subject areas and career backgrounds, each bringing their own unique vision, thoughts and ideas. Membership is based on a 2-year term, with applications opening for new Board members in early 2024.

Graduate Ambassador Scheme

Our brand-new Graduate Ambassador Scheme launched in 2022 with six passionate alumni currently taking part. The scheme offers our recent graduates the opportunity to stay connected to Brunel after graduation through a mix of volunteering opportunities including career talks and student journey workshops, whilst also putting their content creation skills into action to support our profiles, blogs and social media campaigns. As well as gaining all-important skills and experience, the scheme also offers the chance to receive bespoke skills and career support.

Supporting our students with bereavement fundingSahil Vohra Making Mum Proud Charity

We’re delighted that the Making Mum Proud Bereavement Fund, created by alumnus Sahil Vohra (BSc Business & Management, 2016) (pictured) and supported by fellow Brunel alumnus Harpreet Kaur Mangat (LLB Law, 2008), launched at Brunel this year. Working with the Union of Brunel Students, the fund is the first initiative of the Making Mum Proud charity to help support our bereaved students in continuing their higher education.

Making a difference through volunteering

Our alumni community have once again been so generous in gifting their time to various activities this year. Highlights have included providing industry mentoring for our current students; running workshops and featuring on alumni panels for activities to mark Black History Month; speaking to current students at careers events; providing profile content to feature on our website and alumni flags across campus; and joining us on campus to speak to prospective students at our Open Days. The support of our graduates is so valued, providing insight into life after Brunel, inspiring our students, and celebrating the many achievements of our community.

Malika Sachdeva Italy Summer SchoolSharing global experiences

Having had the opportunity to head overseas through Brunel earlier this year, our recent graduates Malika Sachdeva (BSc Financial Mathematics, 2022) and Fiona Mehta (LLB Law, 2022) have each written an article on their global experience.

Brunel funding and generous supporter donations opened the door for Malika to attend a summer school in Italy to develop her digital transformation skills, whilst Fiona had the chance to volunteer for the Yayasan Cahaya Mutiara Ubud charity (‘Shiny Pearl Foundation’) in Bali, Indonesia.Fiona MehtaBali Volunteering

#IamBrunel profiles: Life after Brunel

Featuring as part of our #IamBrunel alumni profile series is a wonderful way for our graduates to share more about life after graduation to inspire the next generation of Brunel students. Showcasing career journeys and highlights, sharing Brunel memories, and offering advice for our students and recent graduates really can make such a positive impact. We use our alumni profiles to feature on our website as well as in our prospectuses, social media, campus displays, presentations and Open Days. It’s a great way to gift your time wherever you are in the world and we'd love for you to share your story with us.
