Creative Writing Networking Evening

with special guest speakers Benjamin Zephaniah and Shaheen Hashmat

27 November 2013
Time: 7pm onwards

Location - RSA (Romney Room), 8 John Adam Street (just off the Strand), London WC2N 6EZ.

Please join us for the first Creative Writing Alumni Networking Evening. Hear from our special guest speakers about their routes into writing and meet with other alumni in your field. This is the perfect chance to network with people with whom you can share advice and inspiration and to get an insight into the range of careers that you can pursue as a skilled writer.

Benjamin Zephaniah is an acclaimed poet, lyricist and published author, best known for his performance poetry which injected new life into the British poetry scene. He has inspired countless young writers and taken his work around the world, including South Africa, where his meeting with Nelson Mandela led to him working with children in the townships. Benjamin will share his experiences of how he came to be published.

Shaheen Hashmat is a Brunel graduate (English and Creative Writing 2008) whose previous role, as a speech writer for Lord Puttnam, inspired her to use her writing to advocate social change. She is currently writing a book about honour abuse and mental illness, and also setting up a support service for honour abuse victims.

Who is this event for? graduates of a Creative Writing or English course at Brunel alumni who work in a role focusing on the written word, such as communications professionals or publishers alumni looking to employ a writer published or aspiring authors, poets, playwrights or lyricists
