Professor Andrew Jones recently represented Brunel University of London at the Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN) General Assembly, held at the University of Cyprus from 7th to 9th October.

YERUN, founded in 2015, brings together like-minded young research universities in Europe, with the primary objective of raising the voice of young universities in Europe via a dedicated strategic representation and lobbying action and strengthening their cooperation, maximising opportunities to collaborate in areas of mutual interest and benefit.

The annual event brought together leaders and coordinators to discuss the network’s strategic direction and the future of European research and higher education. Attendees participated in high-level policy discussions focusing on research and education policies, collaboration, and innovation.

Highlights of the assembly included visits to two of Cyprus’s leading research centres — the KIOS Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence and the CYENS Centre of Excellence — as well as cultural experiences in Nicosia and Limassol, offering delegates an opportunity to engage with the island’s academic and cultural landscape.

As part of the visit, Professor Andrew Jones also hosted an alumni breakfast reception in Nicosia, which brought together local graduates from various years. The gathering provided a platform for alumni to share their achievements and insights and to discuss ways to strengthen engagement and collaboration with the region.

The event underscored the university’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and supporting its global alumni community through initiatives that promote research excellence and cross-border cooperation.
