Impact of our research

We define impact in terms of the positive benefit of university research (in this case AARG) on society. Impact is a major requirement for accreditation (e.g. AACSB) and research evaluation (e.g. REF). AARG have considerable experience of delivering impactful case studies that provide evidence of both significance and reach (e.g. Pay day lending).

Our impactful research also contributes to debate on significant accounting and finance issues that impact a wide group of local and global stakeholders. For example, led by Dani Saghafi, in 2021-2022 AARG team members responded to calls from the Financial Conduct Authority’s consultation on diversity and inclusion on company boards and executive committees; the IAASB’s exposure draft proposed international standard on auditing of financial statements of less complex entities; and HM Treasury’s consultation on UK prospectus regime review). Dr Shaukat responded as part of European Accounting Association’s team to consultation on IFRS Disclosure Project : Disclosure Requirements in IFRS Standards - A Pilot Approach, and to the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG’s) consultation on changes to its governance structure and financing.

We firmly believe in the dissemination of our research to a non-academic audience. For example, Dr Ahmed Elamer and Professor Peter Jelf’s research publication on female audit partners and their audit reports is featured in the London Society of Charter Accountants publication. Dr. Monomita and Prof Peter’s research on Environment Tax is supported by the Chartered Institute of Taxation , UK and their research evidence is considered by the BEIS committee of the Westminster Parliament for the Zero Carbon consultation process. We also grow our impact agenda by focusing on the provision and quality of impact case studies (e.g., Dr Nandy’s Sustainability Reporting Maturity Model is mandated by the Indian government) ICS), consultancy work and the dissemination of the outputs of our research through our bespoke business growth and engagement platform, Brunel HIVE. Brunel HIVE is built to enable entrepreneurs to be successful and to engineer the growth of ambitious businesses worldwide.
