Dr Manuel Alonso, Chief Operating Officer

Manuel brings over 20 years of experience in Higher and Further Education, with a strong track record of leadership in student services, operational strategy, and institutional transformation.

From 2009 to 2022, he held several senior roles at Loughborough University, including Deputy Chief Operating Officer. There, he led student-facing services and oversaw key areas such as the Research and Innovation Office, Legal Services, and Health and Safety. He also developed the University’s sexual violence strategy and contributed to major strategic and capital projects.

In 2022, Manuel joined Brunel University London as Chief Operating Officer. He has since led the design and implementation of a new operating model to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of professional services, aligning them with Brunel’s strategic goals and financial sustainability. 

Manuel is an active member of the Association of Heads of University Administration, reflecting his ongoing commitment to excellence in higher education leadership.
