Our courses will equip with the range of technical, creative and conceptual skills that you’ll need to succeed once you graduate, from advanced filmmaking and editing to screenwriting. However, you’ll also gain the transferable skills in team work, presentation communication that you may not be thinking of right now, but are highly sought after by employers. Your course also includes the option of a work placement designed to offer specific training and skills in your particular area of interest which could be anything from production, post-production, distribution, exhibition or PR.

A career in film studies is varied and you’ll be able to pursue posts in the film and television industries and in other fields such as journalism, publishing, research, critical writing, arts administration and programming. Our graduates have gone on to work for companies including the BBC, Granada Television and Ridley Scott Associates in roles as diverse as casting agents, researchers, production assistants and film officers.
You’ll have access to our state-of-the-art media services suite which has industry-standard facilities to help you develop the skills needed by media employers, including video production platforms like Avid. We also often invite guest speaks like Academy Award winner Sir Mark Rylance or cinematographer Peter Suschitzky (Star Wars) on-campus to share their experiences. This is a great way to get some more insight into what it takes to get ahead in the industry and also network and potentially gain valuable contacts for the future.
