Teaching

Kate is on parental leave throughout 2026, and will not be teaching then. 

She has been a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2018, and currently mentors on the Academic-Professional Programme at Brunel. In 2024, she was nominated by students for the Ken Darby-Dowman Memorial Prize for contribution to student experience, and in 2025 was nominated in the student-led awards for EDI Champion of the year.

At Brunel, she has set up the module EN2611 21st Century Fictions of Global Inequality, as well as being Module Lead for EN1611 World Literature, and EN2610 Contemporary British Fiction. She also supervises final year undergraduate and MA dissertations. In 2025/6, she taught EN2618 Contemporary Fiction in term 1 before going on leave. 

She has previously been nominated for and/or won student-led awards across various institutions for 'Excellent Teaching', 'Excellent Module', 'Outstanding Personal Tutor' and 'Inclusive Lecturer'.
