Politics and the media

With the line between politics and the institutions it governs and media outlets becoming increasingly blurred, the opportunity to take the NCTJ Diploma will help you to stand out from the graduate crowd.

Politics at Brunel have partnered with our Journalism department to offer students on our undergraduate politics courses an opportunity to take up the NCJT Diploma in their second year - the industry recognised gateway into journalism.

The prestigious qualification will help you develop an insight into the field of journalism in politics, developing your skills in essential media law and regulation, court reporting, public affairs and more. Better yet, there is no additional fee for politics students interested in the NCTJ Diploma, meaning you’ll receive a qualification from the media industry’s number one recognised body in the UK at no additional cost.

Whether you’d like to pursue a career in politics, use your political insight to get into journalism or are not quite sure where your future lies, the NCTJ Diploma offers a solid foundation in key skills sought after in graduates and can be a fast-track in the world of media. Many media companies will only employ trainees with a Gold Standard qualification.

Become a social media star

The rise of social media has changed the way we all communicate and interact with people. Politicians use it to push their agendas far and wide, and academics use it to inform and impart knowledge.

As it continues to shape the way we live our daily lives, we offer our undergraduate students the opportunity to take up paid social media work for the department. As part of the social media internship you’ll manage our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter channels as well as generating and promoting website content – all invaluable skills in today’s changing world of work.
